Our sprawling estate spans 180ha, housing our vineyards, productions facility and some of the Hemel-en-Aarde’s most diverse fauna and flora.
“Your wine can only be as good as your fruit.”
LOW-IMPACT FARMING
OUR VINEYARDS
The vineyards at Hasher Family Wines have seen significant growth and evolution. By prioritising quality over yield and focusing on varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir suited to the cool climate, we’ve embraced regenerative farming practices that minimise our footprint on the land. With initiatives like new pruning methods, organic fertiliser and composting, permanent cover crops, and the introduction of specific endemic predator bugs into the vineyards to manage pests, we’re striving to create a better future for Hasher Family Wines and the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
MINIMAL INTERFERENCE
OUR CELLAR
Our approach of minimal human interference is carried through from our vineyards to our cellar, where we use French oak barrels from Burgundy for fermentation and for maturation. By respecting the fruit and giving it the opportunity to really come into its own, we are able to truly produce wines with a sense of place.
“We let the character of the grapes tell the story of our wine.”
Our Winemaking Philosophy
We firmly believe that exceptional wine begins with exceptional fruit, which is why we prioritise the vitality of our vineyards above all else. Through meticulous vineyard care and cellar techniques, we craft elegant, authentic wines that stay true to their unique terroir, and exude a distinct sense of place. Every vintage is a unique creation of character and depth that flows from the valley’s ecosystems, rhythms, and intricate patterns.
Our Conservation Efforts
Our dedication to conservation permeates every aspect of our operation, from vineyard stewardship to cellar practices. Central to our ethos is a deep respect for the indigenous flora and fauna of the valley. With 14 species of conservation concern currently on our property, we take our responsibility to protect these treasures seriously. We’re proud to participate in the WWF Conservation Champion program and are committed to preserving the land for future generations.
